Don't Miss

Tim Gorman

Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at IIS (NEW LOCATION)

Don't miss the next NCOUG Meeting!!

Registration is Required!

Please RSVP.

TIM GORMAN

Abstract:

Cats, Dogs, and ORA-01555
  • Application developers and database administrators always seem to be at each other's throats.  Nothing exemplifies the conflict between developers and DBAs more clearly than the ORA-01555 (snapshot too old) error.  Is it caused by application developers writing foolish SQL code?  Is it caused by DBAs who won't read the manuals and add more rollback segments?  The answer is both "yes" and "no" for each question.  This presentation takes the attendee into the internals of the transaction management in Oracle and then to Disney World to explain how and why the ORA-01555 error occurs.  The goal is nothing less than world peace, at least between developers and DBAs.  Give peace a chance, through understanding...
